Nests


The lake was covered with water birds when The Girl and I visited, all preparing for the season of rain and darkness. Common mallards are nesting in the foreground, a family of coots at the top left -- and, invisible but for a shadow behind the rushes, a creche of moorhen.

great photo - will the greenery die back as winter approaches - not that familar with your winters

Thank you. It will die back into a smattering of brown stalks as the days grow cold, but the lake will rarely freeze.
